The restart button

In the technological era, we are exposed to vast amounts of information. If you are reading this, you belong to the minority that owns a device that is connected to the internet.

Our impression of the world depends on what is being reported, by the people who are able to report it. For example, what you see in your social media feed is posted by the minority that also owns a device that is connected to the internet. Do you get daily updates of people living in the forests or rural areas? Most probably not.

Let me get back to the topic of discussion today. On a scale of 1 – 10, how happy are you? Most of you would be rating below 6. Why? Is it because we see others being happier and wealthier than us on our social feed.

If I gave you a button which can restart your life as another person, would you press it? Why not? It couldn’t be worse than your current situation, seeing how rich and happy people are on social media.

Imagine that every person on earth who is of your age has a coin. All of the coins are placed in a huge box. Restarting your life means putting your coin in the box and selecting a coin out of 100 million coins(Yes that is a huge number but it is just 1 % of the world’s population).

Your decision to press the restart button would be based on the value of your coin among the others. There will be few thousand coins which belong to the children of millionaires. Sounds promising? The odds are under 2%.

How valuable is the coin that you are holding now? Chances are you would not trade your coin with more than the other 90+% of the people, Knowing a little bit more detail of the statistics could help your mindset to shift, making you feel contented with the present state of your life 🙂
