Putting the ‘Self’ in Self-Driven

It might seem hard to believe that being self driven is one of the most challenging trait to possess. Being self driven means that all the things you achieve are mostly yours, which means that you worked your ass off to do those things without money or support from external sources like a family.

Also, ask yourself whether you did those things based on your own goals or was it the goal of others too. It’s easier to achieve something when it’s a “shared” goal because achieving those goals will not ONLY make you happy, but others as well.  That way, you will be even more motivated to achieve those things.

What’s even more challenging is when we face resistance from others. It’s more painful to be resisted by people close to you like your family. Would you feel satisfied doing things if it goes against the wishes of your close ones? Most people would just ‘sacrifice’ their goals just to be seen as noble & respectful.

Influence & expectations from the environment plays a substantial role in shaping us. How many of your aspirations/experiences/achievements are unique & different from the people you most interact with in your environment? You might be able to name a few examples, but it is very likely that you overlooked the similarities.
Why? Because it is easier to remember the only male nurse in a hospital.

Being ‘self driven’ is a title many love to claim, but in reality it is something most people don’t possess.
